Petticoat in action

First with my Circle Skirt. I love how much fullness the petticoat gives the skirt.
And I just realize that I don't have feet in these first pictures. Well, isn't that a bummer.

Here is finally a picture with me wearing my last year creation of the Colette Crepe Dress. With the petticoat of course. It's cotton lawn lined with white cotton lawn and voile.

This is my seersucker version of the Colette Crepe Dress, also from last year. This one isn't lined.

Thanks Hugo for walking through the picture!

My first Petticoat

Just finished my first Petticoat. I used this tutorial by Sugardale. Thanks for posting!
Here is a picture of the work in progress. Almost done gathering and pinning 8 yards of Tulle to a 4 yard strip. I bought the Tulle at Joann's for $1.49/yard. Next time I want to use Cotton Crinoline. But first I need a break from making Petticoats. It is just straight sewing, but for yards on end!

I do love the result thou. It was worth all the kneeling on the floor and gathering yard after yard. I used my newly bought used Walking Foot for this, and I have to say, I don't know how I made it so far without one. The straight stitch plate helped a lot too.

The pictures turned out too yellowish. Sorry for that. The Petticoat is actually really white.

The only thing I changed from the tutorial is the closure. The tutorial calls for hook and eyes. But I used snap buttons instead. It feels more closed that way :)

Circle Skirt

I think we can all agree on that a circle skirt must be shown in action. So here we go:

Kindle Cover

I bought a Kindle 4 last year for my vacation in Germany. Of course it needed a stylish self made cover. Finally an opportunity to use the 'Out to Sea' fabric by Sarah Jane.

Here is the front. It does have a button now to close it.

The back. Isn't this print just beautiful?

Note to myself: erase marker before taking pictures!

A view of the inside. Besides the pretty fabric I also love my new Kindle. It is way nicer to read with a Kindle than it is with an iPad. My eyes just get tired when I try to read whole books on my iPad. This Kindle doesn't have the lighted screen, but I don't mind. I have a light on anyways while reading. It was really nice being able to have so many books with me on the plane and back home in Germany, without the weight :)

My Minoru Jacket

Finally some pictures of my Minoru Jacket. I finished it last October, and I absolutely love it!!! The outer fabric is distressed twill in clay. I didn't interline it, because it doesn't really get that cold here and I wanted a light jacket for the fall. The one thing I didn't like is that it doesn't have pockets. After looking through a whole lot of blogs I decided to attach square pockets on top.

The collar is quite high. A scarf fits nicely in there.

It was, like all the Sewaholic patterns I've sewn so far, very easy to make. I bought the zipper and lining fabric at a local fabric store. They had a sale of fabric from an older lady who collected fabric her whole life. The guys who run this store are going through her fabric stash since two years now to get it organized, and to sort out the fabric to sell. I got two bags of fabric by the pound. It was incredibly cheap, because I only bought very lightweight silky fabrics.

The lining for the horse lover :) Isn't that the most awesome lining fabric? Ok, I might be a little biased here :)

The two inside pockets are from the lining fabric as well. I didn't want to have the quite heavy twill hanging on the light lining. And I don't intend to stuff anything heavy in these little inside pockets, since I have the two big outside pockets.
