My Giant Vintage Star Quilt

The pattern for this quilt is from In Color Order by Jeni Baker. You can find the free tutorial here. After I found a bunch of really nice Giant Vintage Star Quilts in her Flickr Group.

My sister made one of these quilts and it inspired me to make one too. I needed a cuddle blanket for watching movies.

The fabric is Dowry by Anna Maria Horner. I used this Fat Quarter Bundle. The piecing of the top and back was a matter of an afternoon. It went together so quickly, and uses less fabric than one would think.

The backing fabric is cuddle minky in purple. The back shows nicely how I quilted it. Just straight lines left and right of the long straight joining seams. It was done within an afternoon, including the binding. I used the leftover stripes to cut the binding.

I love this quilt. It is so amazingly soft and cuddly. 

Current project: Quilting

My latest project is a quilt which I am quilting myself. I pieced five quilts so far, but never quilted them. I always gave them away to a local long-arm quilter. 

 

Here is a little sneak peak at the current quilt. I am quilting circles.

 These are the five quilts I pieced, gave away for quilting, and put the binding on myself. 

This first one is Sanctuary in Oasis Quilt by Patricia Bravo. I kept this one for myself.

Unfortunately I only have pictures of these two quilts of the finished top. Before the quilting was done.

Baby Quilt and iPad cover

Now I can finally post about the baby quilt I made for my sister's baby Ben. It finally arrived at it's destination at the East coast. Yeah! I found the pattern online at fatquartershop.com and totally fell in love with the color combination and the cute babyish dinosaur. I am not a big fan of the classic quilt patterns with the stars. It doesn't matter what color the stars have, it always reminds me of Christmas. I do have a few more quilts on my to-do-list, but I will never become a quilting fan, that's for sure. But I do like the more modern or unusual quilt patterns. And I think this one is just sooo cute for a baby.

I only did the piecing and the binding. Grace Park from Enchanted Quilting did the great quilting work. I absolutely love how it turned out with the circles. It's for sure a go to place for all my upcoming quilt projects. Thanks Grace!

This is the back. Cuddly dimple dot minky. The tutorial for the binding I used is from Jeni from In color order. I am also not a big fan of hand sewing :-)

For my mom's birthday I made her this iPad cover. She just got an iPad 3 and a bag in another Joel Dewberry design (the bag from my older sister) so this will go nicely with the bag.
